Grant Assistant / Community Outreach Worker (Temporary, Part-Time)

FOCUS Churches of Albany is seeking a Grant Assistant / Community Outreach Worker to support program implementation and community outreach related to SNAP benefit disruptions. This grant-funded, temporary position is part of an emergency declaration issued by Governor Hochul in response to recent delays and changes affecting SNAP benefits. The position is scheduled to end on December 31, 2026

This position combines grant tracking and support with in-person community outreach to promote programs and services available through FOCUS. The role will work closely with the Director of Programs, Pantry Director, and Office Manager to ensure effective program delivery and compliance with New York State requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to programs funded through the SNAP emergency grant

  • Assist with grant compliance activities, including documentation, data entry, and reporting support

  • Support efficient day-to-day program implementation in coordination with staff leadership

  • Conduct outreach in the community to promote FOCUS programs and services

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and networks

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills across in-person, phone, email, virtual, and written formats

  • Technical proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, email, and data entry

  • Highly organized, with the ability to multitask, follow directions, problem-solve, and manage priorities

  • Able to work independently and remain accountable without supervision

  • Comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities

  • Comfortable with person-to-person engagement and occasional public speaking

  • Flexibility in scheduling, with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed

  • Experience with grant management or community outreach is preferred but not required

  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach and a sense of humor are valued

Position Details

  • Reports to: Director of Programs

  • Hours: 25 hours per week, primarily Monday–Friday

  • Salary: $26,000

  • Location: Onsite at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 275 State Street, Albany (not remote)

  • Status: Temporary, part-time, grant-funded; non-exempt
