More Than Bread, A Community Partnership
What began with one volunteer asking a simple question has become a strong community partnership. Several years ago, former FOCUS volunteer Debra Hoffmann asked if Price Chopper would donate fresh bread for the FOCUS Breakfast Club. Thanks to neighbors Tom and Lisa Morton and the outreach ministry at First United Methodist Church of Delmar, her idea became a reality.
Today, Heather Diddel and volunteers from First United Methodist Church of Delmar coordinate and pick up bread donations from the Price Chopper stores in Slingerlands and Glenmont multiple times each week. These donations provide the FOCUS Breakfast Club and the Food Pantry with fresh bagels, bread, rolls, and pastries. If there is more bread than FOCUS can use, the extra is shared with other community groups and neighborhood food programs.
It shows how one person's idea, along with the hard work of volunteers and support from community partners, continues to make a difference every week.
